Because I live in Sydney, Australia, it is summer over the Christmas holidays (something I have yet to get used to…!) and I wanted to make something that was not entirely traditional for the holidays that could be embraced in any season. I had already made this bohemian holiday branch which I loved, so I decided to make something a little same, same, but different. A super simple, colourful tissue paper wreath- something I could keep up in my home year round; I like to think of a wreath as a circle which could stand for so many things- circle of friends, circle of life…
All you need is a circular shape- I used an embroidery circle from the craft shop as something easy and ready- made, but I would have love to hand-twist a couple of willows branches into form- scissors, glue and tissue paper and/or mylar. I cut the paper into little strips and glued the pieces around the circle so that there was no open spaces left.
I made the tassels on mine longer at the bottom to give it a dreamcatcher effect, further promising myself that I won’t have to take it down in the new year.
It’s really so simple! You can use as little or as much tissue paper strips as you’d like- just stop when you think it looks its prettiest. Hang it on a door, wall or gate inside or out…I even hung mine in a bougainvillea bush!
What you’ll need:
Embroidery circle – these are great, because the inside pops out and you can technically make two (or use another circular shape)
Tissue paper & Mylar; try ribbon and pipe cleaners too
Scissors
Craft Glue
What you’ll do:
Cut tissue into small strips at least 3.5 inches long.
Glue smalls sections of the wood on the top and bottom of the space you are working with.
Stick the thin part of your tissue strip onto the glue and wrap it around so that no wood is showing.
Continue this until the entire circumference is covered in paper strips.
Add more, longer strips to the bottom (if you’d like).
Give it a haircut- trim in places to make it as pretty as possible.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

Hey!
You don’t really have to cut the fringe — just the tippy top part — it’s just like cutting ribbon. Super easy
