Hello Jungalistas! I am so thrilled to announced our latest launch, a new collection of wallpapers! As y’all know, my style is wild and is all about injecting color, pattern, and life into the home, and I think that wallpaper is one of the best ways to do that.
About repeating patterns
I first learned about repeating patterns in the forth grade in a lesson about MC Escher. We created tessellations in that class and ever since then I’ve been quite obsessed with creating repeating patterns. (For a tutorial on how I create our repeating patterns, go here!)
For me, creating repeating patterns it’s almost a meditative practice. Since we’re all bringing good vibes home, we employed symbols of positive energy (plants, hamsas, the sun) and wove these symbols throughout the line. Every single piece in this collection began with a sketch or a painting in my notebook.
About the patterns in the collection
“Pheonix” was born at a cafe near my home along the L.A. river, where so many varieties of palms can be seen from the outside seating at the cafe. I drew the leaves from the Eucalif motif after dropping of some stuff to my storage unit. There was this incredible eucalyptus tree and its leaves, seed pods and flowers were all over the ground. I gathered up a bunch of the fallen leaves and pods and drew the elements for Eucalif sitting on the curb.
About the paper
The paper is printed on Sure Strip paper, and made right here in the U.S. We chose Sure Strip because it’s easier to install and easier to remove than conventional wallcoverings. It’s manufactured with a unique high performance substrate and special adhesive, so that they smooth easily on the wall and remove in full strips when it’s time to redecorate.
Since this is one of our first major independent collections, it’s a huge milestone to be releasing this collection into the world. I couldn’t be more excited about it! (Also feeling very grateful to all the folks who helped to make it happen)! It was a wonderful learning experience for me and we hope to continue adding new patterns and colorways to the line over the coming months and years!
