You know we love us some handmade goodies over here at Jungalow so when we saw A Question of Eagles’ beautiful collection of ceramics and quilts and learned they are all made by hand – our jaws dropped! Melissa Tolar and Jonathan Ballack are the artists, makers, and creative force behind A Question of Eagles. They make their ceramics in their Los Angeles based studio and their quilts are often made in collaboration with Melissa’s mom, Marcia, in Illinois. How cute is that?!
Melissa and Jonathan’s AQOE designs are inspired by nature, their travels, and studio pottery of the 60’s and 70’s. They are rustic modernists who have an eye for form and texture. Their designs embody the repetition and symmetry we see in nature, but they have a wild side too! We see oceanside cliffs in Big Sur, funky Joshua trees in the desert, and the deep hues of tall redwoods as influences in their handmade homewares.
If we had to choose our fave AQOE piece, it would be a tie between their reversible candle pedestal set that you can turn upside down and use as bud vases (whaaaaat?!) or their ceramic cacti that we would totally use as a ring holder!
