We first noticed ceramicist Linda Hsiao, aka Knotwork LA, at a craft show here in LA a little while back and were taken with the personality her work exudes. Her recent Tiki pieces always make us smile when we see them in our Instagram feed- the ladies are our favorite, with their boobs, bellies, and booties! Inspired in part by the stone heads on Easter Island, and the Venus of Willendorf, Linda creates each unique Tiki god by hand.
Another stand out are the little ceramic creatures Linda creates. Cute but not cutesy, weird in the best way, and totally wonderful, each tiny character seems to have a distinct personality. Her ongoing collaboration- combining the teeny vases of fellow LA ceramicist Yen Works with these creatures for their Beasts of Burden series- doubles the cuteness factor. Tiny creatures carrying tiny vases? How could we resist?
The pieces with personality may be our favorites, but the vases, platters, and footed ‘offering plates’ (perfect for palo santo) in the porcelain inlay series are also very beautiful with gorgeous pastel glazes and smooth white porcelain accenting the unfinished clay. Linda even offers handmade wood goods- so talented!
