Hey guys, look what’s sitting on my coffee table!! Ahhhh! It was July 2013 when I wrote this post about getting the book deal, and now here she is, nearly two years, 20 home tours, 12 DIY projects, a plant-o-pedia, and 304 pages later.
Is the book everything I had hoped for?? Yes!! I’m obsessed with it actually. I carry it around with me everywhere as though it needs to be breast fed. Ha!
When my advanced copy arrived in the mail late last week I was having a particularly bad day. Then I heard someone struggling to open the door to my studio and there was little Ida with a manila envelope in her hand. “It’s your book, mama!’ she said to me while running towards me. Best. Moment. Ever. We opened the envelope together and boom. There it was. The New Bohemians. The size, the heft, the way the colors read–it’s all just how I wanted…My heart skipped a beat.
Dabito’s photography looks amazing, doesn’t it?
And the spine of the book is even jungalicious. My team at Abrams really rocked it. I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this. I’ll keep this post fairly short because I’m gonna be talking about the book a lot in the coming weeks/months/years/life (haha) BUT I can say that I am REALLY proud of this project and so grateful for all the help that I had in making the project come to fruition. It is not only the book I’ve been waiting to write, it is also the book I’ve been waiting to buy.
The only thing about it that’s a little funny? There is a huge (I mean HUGE) photo of me on the back cover where I am certainly channelling my inner Tyra Banks. Haha. (You can peep the back cover and look inside the book over right here.)
Holy guacamole. This is happening.
