I woke up this morning and it hit me that my wedding is less than two weeks away. Wow. And Yikes. I’m not allowing myself to freak out or become even remotely bridezilla-ish because I know that’s wouldn’t be good for anyone, especially not my L’il Boomba, so I’m just making lots of lists and systematically checking things off.
Yesterday I worked on the final table setting arrangement–I took some photos to give to the caterers who will be setting up the tables so that we can be sure that they end up as close as possible to my vision (I may not be a bridezilla, but I am still a designer!) I set everything up and am really happy with the end result. The only significant difference between this setup and the one at my actual wedding reception will be the flatware. The flatware I have rented for the reception is gold. Ya, It’s hot.
I’ve paired the Areca leaf plateware and my hand dyed vintage linens with the floral centerpieces that are planted in recycled jars. Also, I’m using paint chips from the hardware store (I have 100’s of these from personal and client projects in a shoebox) to make place-cards for all of our guests. With the vintage table runners I think we are gonna have ourselves one charming family style dinner reception.
My only question now is–which arrangement do you like better, Version A or Version B? Version A I have the knife holding up the place-card, and the bowl is on the diagonal–version B is more standard. Thoughts? Which version shall I send to the caterer?
It seems so silly to think about such tiny details–but in the end, I do think that it is this type of attention to detail that transforms an event from pretty to impeccable. OK, now I’m starting to sound like a Bridezilla–so I’ll shut up :D
Until tomorrow…

Both are beautiful, but I prefer A. Especially if the placecard does not stick out above the top of the bowl on its own (ie without knife-al assistance). It’s hard to see with the straight on perspective. But the look is GREAT!! I also love how you dyed all your own linens- that is so cool.

Stunning! I vote for A too- muy original! XX F

I vote for A – more design-y.

justina blakeney, do you have an eye for everything, or what?
i do love both, but perhaps version B a pinch more. perhaps the tables could alternate? it seems to me that both settings deserved to be used!
counting down with you.
xo
Justina Blakeney says
alternating–hmmmm kinda love that idea– thanks V.!
Rosanne says
Not sure what it would look like from other angles, but from this angle I also prefer A. Very pretty! :)
Paper Pastries says
Version b was more eye catching for me.

I really like the appy plate placement in version A, it really brings the setting to another level. The placement of the knife matters less to me. So I guess my vote is version A! xoxo

I would go for version A, but maybe have something else hold the place card so that the knife can go beside the plate? A recycled cork with the bottom trimmed off, perhaps? Lovely to see these – thanks for sharing! xx
Justina Blakeney says
I LOVE your cork idea– may have to start collecting them– and fast :)

First and foremost, this is GORGEOUS! Gold flatware will be the finishing touch. Version A is far more dynamic and inviting that version B. Also, version A allows increased visibility of the place card- which is helpful for guests to find their way. The bowl on a diagonal feels more inviting, as if it were beckoning me to sit where it is pointing. Version A feels leagues more creative, offbeat, and original than version B. You’ve stayed true to yourself through and through! I’m an very interested in the cost breakdown of this budget wedding. How is it possible to be on a budget and still afford to invite 200 people to your wedding?! you constantly inspire and amaze me.

wow! Thank you so much for this detailed analysis! I will do a cost breakdown for you all after the wedding. Hugs ~J

ooh!! everything is coming together so beautifully!! i can’t believe it’s happening so soon! :D
hmm~ i keep flipping back & forth for both as it’s hard to choose (& love how you added in the thought, “i am a designer!” umhm! love that.) but i think i’m leaning more towards A, but maybe with the knife to the left like in B? it is going to be fabulous! :D

Option A, definitely!

I’m super impressed with your organization of the place settings, I was stressing at my wedding that the catering guys were going to ugly everything up (they didn’t though :) I sure yours will end up perfect with your clear guidance, good luck I’m excited to see photos!! (I like option A but they both look great)
Justina Blakeney says

no, not bridzilla – a woman who recognizes that this day is but the beginning of a lifetime commitment – and that’s a pretty big deal! I love that you’ve remained true to your own style, the table setting is wonderful.
Rose says
I like A better – less traditional. Good Luck to you and in times of stress about the wedding just remember it’s all about the LOVE!

my eye is def going towards version a, although i kinda like the idea of alternating at each table??
seeing this though is sure gettin’ me excited!
Justina Blakeney says
ghaaaa me too!!
Lana {lanalou style} says
I think I’ll go with B! A is fun but somehow multiplied by 200, it may end up looking a bit busy? Can’t wait to see the actual look, the gold sounds fab!
